When the lanterns softly glow
And crescent moons begin to show,
A month of mercy starts to rise
Beneath our shared Canadian skies.
From many cultures, many lands,
With different prayers and different hands,
We gather here in hope and grace,
Each heart a light in this shared space.
By day we fast from drink and bread,
To feed the soul and quiet the head.
To feel the hunger others bear,
And grow in gratitude and care.
But Ramadan is more than this —
It’s choosing patience over bliss,
It’s giving more than what we take,
It’s healing hearts for goodness’ sake.
It’s opening doors, it’s making room,
It’s planting kindness where there’s gloom.
It’s neighbors meeting, face to face,
With mutual respect in every place.
Though paths to God may not be one,
We stand together in the sun —
In shared compassion, shared belief
That love is stronger than our grief.
So may this month bring peace to all,
May walls grow thin and bridges tall.
And when these thirty days depart,
May light remain in every heart.
