Today is Maulana Maududi death anniversary. May Allah reward him with the company of anbia, siddiqeen, shuhada and sualiheen ameen.
He was far above being remembered as a figurehead or idolized like a political leader, saint, mystic, or spiritual figure on his death anniversary. His real contributions is his intellectual thought and his approach to understanding and explaining Islam in a way that addressed the complexities of the modern world. Reducing his memory to slogans or quotes does a disservice to the revolutionary ideas he stood for. His life’s work calls for a deeper engagement with knowledge, understanding, and scholarly pursuit, rather than ritualistic tributes.
Maulana once said that “The leadership of the world cannot even be dreamed of until you become leaders in knowledge and research”.
So, make a decision. If you wish to treat Maulana Maududi (may Allah have mercy on him) like the revered elders of other sects, then continue putting up his pictures and writing a few golden quotes from him.
But if you truly wish to spread the legacy of Maulana Maududi, the path lies in entering the fields of research and knowledge. To continue his mission means to contribute to the development of knowledge that deal with current challenges. May Allah help us and give us Iman, intellect, courage and talent to become leaders in academic discourse, and honor his vision and ensure that the message of Islam remains relevant and impactful in the modern world.
