Who do you love the most?
In a time when women were often marginalized and undervalued, daughters were killed right after their birth and women had no inheritance rights, instead, a deceased person’s wives were divided like the other inherited items, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) dared to challenge the unbreakable shackles of societal norms.
When one of the curious companions, Hazrat Amr ibn Al Aas once asked, “Who do you love the most, O Messenger of Allah?” the Prophet’s swift response was, “Ayesha.”
The companion was taken aback, expecting a different answer. It was very shocking for him, to see the prophet taking pride in naming his wife, as his love, in a public setting.
The prophet, no doubt, wanted to restore the respect and honor of women and break the norms of the society.
His love for Ayesha was genuine and profound. He cherished her love for himself, her intelligence, wit, and unwavering faith. Ayesha, in turn, adored the Prophet’s affection, kindness, compassion, and of course his dedication to his people.
Amr ibn Aas, wanted to bring prophet’s attention back to men, so he tried again, “And among men, who do you love most?”, the Prophet knew the psychology of men very well and how hard it is for men to acknowledge the value of a woman. His response to Amr ibn Aas was just as heartfelt and instant- “Her father, Abu Bakr.”
Surely, everyone knew Abu Bakr very well. He was the Prophet’s closest friend and confidant, forged in the heat of persecution, migration and their life long struggle to spread the message of Islam.
But… the prophet again brought his beloved wife Ayesha forward and instead of saying just the name of Abu Bakr, he added the phrase
her father.
Can we feel the heat of the moment and his love for Ayesha, radiating in this conversation??
The love story of Aysha and Mohammad is a timeless beacon of hope and inspiration, a testament to the power of true and sincere love.

Narrated Abu `Uthman:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) sent `Amr bin Al As as the commander of the troops of Dhat-us-Salasil. `Amr bin Al- `As said, “(On my return) I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, ‘Which people do you love most?’ He replied, `Aisha.’ I said, ‘From amongst the men?’ He replied, ‘Her father (Abu Bakr)’. I said, ‘Whom (do you love) next?’ He replied, “`Umar.’ Then he counted the names of many men, and I became silent for fear that he might regard me as the last of them.”
